South Cambs Council has declared a cost of living crisis. We believe that the Council should be doing much more than just writing to the Government about it.
Your Labour team has an action plan to help local people. We sent it to the Lib Dem Council leader over three weeks ago and have not even received an acknowledgement.

Why aren’t the Lib Dems listening?

Our plan starts with an anti-poverty strategy to tackle the causes of poverty and to address its effects. Here are some of the key points.

  1. Create an anti-poverty strategy.

  2. Stick to the policy of 40% of new build homes classed as ‘affordable’. Stop letting developers get away with less. And, more homes for lower social rent.

  3. Expand the Welfare Advice Service that Labour Councillors first suggested and made sure is funded. This should become more of an outreach service with ‘pop up’ clinics around the district.

  4. Accelerate home insulation. Take action against private landlords renting poorly insulated properties.

  5. Become Real Living Wage accredited. A permanent commitment to pay Council staff and contractors enough to live on. Encourage others to do the same especially when deciding which companies are awarded contracts.

  6. Sign up to the ‘Right to Food’ campaign and help end the scandal of food banks being needed.
